Feltmaking

Felting is man's oldest process of making cloth, by soaking wool fibres in hot soapy water and rubbing and rolling them until the fibres lock together and shrink to form a felted fabric.

The aim of this workshop was to learn the basics of wet felting covering the steps from: wool fibre, structure layout, colour and design considerations, embellishments, wetting and rolling out to felt and create a piece of fabric.

The workshop was delivered by Cliona Reilly, a local textile artist, who works with a variety of materials and media ranging from weave, knit, print, felt, experimenting with the process and yarns for interior art wall pieces.

Drawings and paintings express my relationship with textiles through rhythm, structure and colour
