Clive Lawrence: How to get Free Publicity
UCA Rochester 3rd June 6-8pm
The Xchange at UCA was packed on 3rd June as Clive Lawrence explained:
Why PR works
How to seize the benefits for your business
Where to look for stories
Who holds the key to free publicity
What to say to them
When to strike
Everyone will go away with at least one concrete way of raising their media profile!
Clive worked as a BBC reporter, news editor and trainer on radio and TV having entered journalism on local and national newspapers. He was a producer on Radio 4's 'Today' programme, covered Northern Ireland at the height of the troubles, and ran BBC Radio Kent.
Since leaving the BBC he has travelled the world helping people in a variety of businesses raise their broadcast interview performance and now runs a leading regional PR company from Medway. He believes that most small and medium sized businesses know the benefits of PR, but think that it's only for national companies. His mission is to show SMEs the value of using the techniques themselves to generate turnover. As he says: "Profit starts with PR".

Stephen Turner at the Joiner's Shop
STEPHEN TURNER AT THE JOINER'S SHOP, CHATHAM HISTORIC DOCKYARD ON TUESDAY 26TH JANUARY
Medway has always been a focus for artist Stephen Turner. As he says, 'there's something about the Medway air that's character building'. His fascination with time and tide, the land and the river, have produced some ground-breaking work. He is also well know for his time working on the Thames estuary sea forts and as well as devising exciting new projects he is a member of the Arts Council in the south east. Making a living as an artist, whose practice is decidedly contemporary, is never easy, but he has succeded in this over three decades and on 26th January he talked about what he's done and how he survives. When asked which superhero he would like to be, he replies, 'maybe I could be Perseverance Man!' That probably gives a clue to his success.

Charles helps cities transform their thinking so that they reassess their potential and can plan their future with greater purpose and originality. He assesses the interplay and the impacts of deeper global trends, and attempts to ground these in practical initiatives. He is an authority on creativity and its uses and how city futures are shaped by paying attention to the culture of a place. He inspires, stimulates, challenges and facilitates transformation.
He is the director of Comedia and advises cities on creative approaches to planning, economy, social inclusion, culture and local identity. Charles is an authority on creativity and its uses and how city futures are shaped by paying attention to the culture of a place. His recent book The Art of City Making (September 2006) now in its third edition and published by Earthscan has been highly acclaimed. It focuses on how cities can be more "creative for the world" so that the energies of individuals and companies can be brought into alignment with their global responsibilities.
